With July being the peak month in the winter season in Australia and also the traditional month we celebrate ‘Christmas in July’, we thought we’d have a look at what events are on to satisfy the Sydney Foodies this winter. As Sydney’s boutique refrigerated truck rental specialists we support many of our clients during these busy periods in the foodie calendar, and things certainly don’t go into hibernation during winter.
1. Christmas in July
We all know that Christmas is traditionally associated with snow, roaring fires and mulled wine in the Northern Hemisphere. But where did the idea for Christmas in July originate and why do we Aussies embrace it so wholeheartedly? There is something cozy and comforting about a wintery Christmas and of course the food is comforting and delicious with lots of turkey, roast root vegetables and cheese platters with plenty of spiced mulled wine to wash it down! So dig out your Christmas Jumper and your cinnamon sticks. After all, we all want to build a snowman and have a snowball fight to the sound of jungle bells being sung by carolers, don’t we?
From Yulefest in the Blue Mountains, The Rocks Christmas in July Markets, Bondi Winter Magic and Winterfest at Luna Park, there’s so much going on around Sydney for foodies, revellers and fun lovers alike.
2. The Gluten Free Expo
The Gluten Free Expo is on in Sydney during the first weekend in August. It is the only dedicated gluten free expo in NSW owned and managed by Coeliac NSW & ACT.Organisers are expecting over 8,000 people to attend Sydney’s largest totally gluten free expo over the two days.
Not only will the Expo offer a great opportunity to discover, taste and buy everything that’s new in gluten free foods. There will also be cooking demonstrations to enjoy and a dedicated education stage where visitors to the Expo can find out what’s new, with expert dieticians and medical practitioners sharing the latest developments in diet, coeliac disease management and research. The Expo will also feature gluten free street food and kids’ activities.
3. Italian Wine & Food Festival
Who doesn’t love Italian food and wine? On Sunday 26 August at the Australian Technology Park in Everleigh, everything that’s great about eating and drinking in Italy will come together under one roof. From street-style pizza-fun for the whole family to fresh-pasta finery for the connoisseur, the festival has something for everyone. The event will showcase a selection of pop-up restaurants, cooking demonstrations and the unmissable wine zone, making the Italian Wine & Food Festival one that’s not to be missed!
