It’s that time of year again when marriage proposals are made, restaurants are booked out with intimate tables for 2 and red roses are sold in tens of dozens. Sydney’s florists, food distributors and producers, and restaurants will soon be busy preparing to make February 14th the most romantic day they can for countless love-struck Sydney-siders.

So, who are these suppliers, markets and producers who work so hard to make one day a year so very special? We thought we would delve behind the scenes in honour of all of our hardworking clients and the industries we serve at All Wheels Refrigerated Truck Rentals and find out…

The Sydney Flower Market

For the flower industry, the lead up to Valentine’s Day is the biggest week of the year and it’s all about one flower: the red rose. And there can be no busier place than the Sydney Flower Market when the biggest day for romance in the calendar comes around. It has been a part of Sydney’s market tradition since the First Fleet. The first market was set up on a site that now houses the Maritime Gallery, before moving to The Rocks and then the Queen Victoria Building in George Street, Sydney. Most recently the NSW Government commissioned construction at Sydney Markets where the Sydney Flower Market has its home today and where approximately 170 traders have stands.

Fresh cut flowers are delivered every day from farmers in NSW, and no day is busier than the morning of February 14th with Australians spending up to an estimated billion dollars. Sydney’s florists and the general public will flock to the markets as they open first thing in Valentine’s Day to stock up on fresh flowers for all the romantics buying fresh flowers for their loved ones. Keeping those flowers fresh and beautiful on the trip from the markets, refrigerated vehicles play a key role.

Sydney Fish Markets

Seafood is arguably one of the most romantic foods. We’re thinking smoked salmon, freshly shucked oysters and caviar, all washed down with a glass of chilled bubbles. There are plenty of places in Sydney to head for a your seafood fix but Sydney Fish Markets has to be one of the most well-known supplying wholesale seafood to some of Sydney best (and romantic) restaurants as well as welcoming members of the public to buy direct. Some of our favourites include Claudios Seafoods, Nicholas Seafood and Christies’s Seafood. There are also some outstanding Seafood suppliers right here on our doorstep including M&G Seafood and Marrickville Freezers both in Marrickville.

No Valentine’s Day would be complete without an indulgent sweet fix in the form of chocolate. We love the artisan chocolates available in Sydney including the beautifully handcrafted goodies at Adora, the amazing Pana Chocolate and the fabulous Coco Chocolate. The perfect storage temperature for chocolate, especially beautiful crafted handmade chocolate, is key. Whilst too cold is generally bad for chocolate, with soaring temperatures in Sydney, getting chocolates to their destination without melting requires specialist transportation.
