Cheese please! Imagine being transported out of your home to Italy at the click of a button.
Well you can be. We may not be able to jump on a plane and visit our favourite destinations but we do live in a fabulous city that has so much to offer, even in lockdown. Last week our senses were frolicking in Italy, France and the Swiss Alps through a sublime Formaggi Ocello virtual cheese and wine pairing event with Sogna Ocello and Sommelier Daniel Marcella, from the Italian Wine Society.
The evening kicked off with a great introduction from Sogna and Daniel, it was then straight to Italy with one of the most sublime whites we have tasted, a Bertrani Sereole Soave DOC, from Veneto, Italy paired with a La Tur (Mixed Milk Robiola) Goat/Sheep/Cow milk, Bloomy rind also from Italy.
The narration and complimentary visual imagery had you tasting each note, a bouquet of flavours exploding in our mouths and truly experiencing the culture, love and excellence of each wine and cheese. Whether it was earthy, bold, fruity, we experienced it wholeheartedly.
We were introduced to a Cow’s Milk, Washed Rind from Burgundy, France, one of those super-stinkie cheeses! Get past the stink and you won’t be disappointed, superbly matched with St Michael Eppan Pinot Bianco Sudtirol, from Trentino-Alto-Adige, Italy …there wasn’t a drop or crumb left behind from this unique combo.
The night ended on a high with cheese and wine number 6 producing ‘Oohs’ and ‘Ahhs’ from all 75 participants as we indulged inn a Gorgonzola Dolce Latte, Cow’s Milk, Blue Vein from Lombardia, Italy matched with a Presidium Ratafia Cherries, Prezza, LÁquila, also from Italy. A few words to wrap the last pairing up; Decadent, unique, not to be missed.
World class and a must do. The flow, presentation, quality of cheese and wine far surpassed our expectations. The cheese and wine packs include 6 Wines and 6 Cheeses, cut and numbered 1 to 6 with accompaniments, crackers, jam, muscatels and matching cheese notes. Packaged beautifully and delivered to your door step, a well crafted event from registration to saying goodnight!
Thank you Maeve O’Meara from Gourmet Safari for the recommendation, we were thrilled to have learnt about the evening.
